At Empire Sewer and Water, it is our job to care about sewers 365 days a year. But for most homeowners, the sewer only seems to be a concern when things start to go awry. Some problems are big and some are small, but you can avoid major damage by educating yourself on the warning signs that usually signal sewer danger is ahead.
This is the most common red flag and it could mean any number of things. Some blockages are caused by hygiene products, hair or other foreign objects. But some are related to sewer line problems and those are the ones you should be concerned about. If you start to hear a slight gurgling noise when you flush the toilet, this is not something you should ignore. This is your home telling you that either your main sewer line or one of its branches is not working properly. While you might not listen to your spouse, these words from your house are to be taken seriously.
If you have a tree in your yard that has been there for awhile, it could be threatening your sewer line. If it penetrates the walls, it could mean expensive problems for you. This is why we suggest that all of our customers have regular video inspections of their sewer lines. This will help us solve problems like tree root damage before they get out of control.
If you have a family of 4 or 5, odds are you are using your plumbing far more than a single person would. This means you have to do sewer and plumbing maintenance more frequently than others. This includes pipe inspection, pressure release from your sewer line and informing young children of what should and shouldn’t go down the drain.
You don’t have to go at it alone. The plumbing and sewer experts at Empire Sewer and Water have been servicing the NYC area for over 25 years. We have seen it all and we would love to help you minimize the impact of sewer related problems.
